Success in My 40s

Did you know it’s not too late? It’s not too late for change, not too late for your dreams, and it’s not too late to go for the life you always dreamed off. When I realized that, I decided I was going to be wildly successful in my 40s and I haven’t looked back since.

Would you agree that Einstein was a genius and knew what he was talking about when he said that time is relative?

There’s no time limit on your dreams, your goals, or anything you want to do. Only the thought that there is. And the good news is, thoughts are not facts. You can choose to change your limiting thoughts to ones that serve you.

Here’s some examples: I have all the time in the world to grow my business and create the career I dream of. I have time to educate myself in the field I am passionate about. I still have time to find a partner and build a family.

Whatever it is that you want, you have time.

I used to think that because I wasn’t a prodigy in my 20s and didn’t start making films in high school I could never be a filmmaker. I used to think that because I’ve never written anything before I couldn’t write today. I used to think that whatever I am today is what I will be tomorrow. Well, I’m glad I did some work to replace those limiting beliefs for encouraging and constructive ones!

It took me a while to understand what I wanted to do on this planet and what my purpose is, but now that I have found it, I’m not about to let myself believe that I can’t have it because it’s too late!

I’m going for success and fulfilment in my forties! There’s no rule against that, contrary to popular belief.

Plenty of people found success way in their 30s and later, and it doesn’t make them any less successful or talented! Here’s a few examples: Doris Fisher, co-founded Gap at 37, Oprah Winfrey didn’t host her first talk show before 32, Reid Hoffman co-founded LinkedIn at 35, Julia Child started hosting The French Chef at 51, and Samuel Jackson was cast for Pulp Fiction at 46!

And I’m sure you have examples from your own life as well, just so that we’re not getting all our inspiration from insanely successful people. There are people around you who have moved things around mid-course. People who all of a sudden became a different person, chose a new path, went back to school… because they understood that they still had time to achieve their goals an dreams!

It’s never too late to change, grow, evolve, or have a aha moment. You can have yours today! Maybe even while reading this, how cool would that be!

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been here for almost four decades now but I’ve learned to look at my life in terms of decades rather than years and it really helps me understand that this adventure really is a marathon and not a sprint!

I am fine not having everything I wanted today, I don’t need to have it all now, heck I probably don’t need to have it all ever! The fun is in the process of getting there. Now instead of looking at my past as a waste of time, I see it as a playground where I have learned everything I needed to learn to become who I was supposed to be today. And today I am learning everything I need to learn to be myself tomorrow. Isn’t it a wonderful process?

If you decide to make a change for the future today, if you realize that you still have time to change career, build your dream house, start a family… do it with love and kindness. I know it’s easy to beat yourself up for not coming to that realization or making a change earlier, so be kind with yourself. Yesterday you were still getting ready, today you can make a new decision based on what you’ve learned so far, and tomorrow you can become whoever you want to be. You have time.
