I watched the music channels a lot growing up. For the longest time I dreamed about making music videos for a living. But for some reason, this never happened… What did happen though, is that after nurishing an obsession for everything La Blogothèque was putting out, I decided to try and see if I could make my own live sessions.
What follows is the aftermath of that challenge. In 2016 I started recording local musicians in Brussels. This was fun, and I’ve learned a lot, it was the first time I picked up a camera to film. (I’ve had a camera in my hand taking pictures for a significant amount of years at that point)
In 2018 I upgraded to nurishing a new obsession : following the footsteps of Alan Lomax and recording folk music. I had recently move to Canada but at the time I was living in Montreal, while the music scene there was great there, it wasn’t what I was looking for.
Almost on a whim, I decided to head out West, not really knowing what I would find or where I was going, but really hoping it would be where my wildest music recording dreams would come true. And boy, was I in for a ride !
I arrived in Winnipeg in the spring with high hopes and no clue where to start, but I barely put my bags down that everything started to fall into place. Encounter after encounter, a puzzle started to assemble itself in front of me, laying the perfect playground for me to record some of the most talented artists I’ve had the privilege to meet, listen to, and become friends with.
Below I have selected a few of my favorite sessions and artists, but please head to Drop Pictures YouTube channel because there are more songs and talented artists to discover there!
